I train in Boxing and want to add some grappling. What would suit boxing better Freestyle Wresting or Judo?|||I would strongly recomend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. But if only out of those 2, id say Judo.|||I've been practicing judo for a little over 3 years now and absolutely enjoy it NOW, but I can say that there is a training intensity you can achieve in wrestling that you just cant in judo.

Having said that, give freestyle wrestling a go! I say this because outside of high school, it seems rather difficult to participate in unless you are competing at a collegiate level. Judo and BJJ are also good choices, but are more commonly available to the general public.

If you are in a convenient location where all are available, why not cross train?|||I do Judo and I have done MMA type training (but not fought in a cage or anything). I am not too familiar with wrestling but I've been practicing Judo for several years now. When I think of wrestling I think of a few moves used for takedowns which are namely double-leg, single-leg, firemans carry, and a few others. Judo has a syllabus of 67 "official" throws and most of them can be done from a clinch.

However, Judo takes years to do right. To do good Judo you have to develop a good feel for what you want to do.|||@Tau, "wrestling doesn't lend itself to mixed martial arts." Ummm...WHAT?? Are you just like, blind or is there some sort of mental defect here? Wrestling is arguably the best base for a mixed martial artist.

To OP, either can work. although unless you are in high school/college and have access to wrestling that way, then the only place you'll really find that kind of instruction is a MMA gym in most cases. At which case you'll be exposed to both wrestling and judo in some form as is.|||Wrestling. Look at GSP great karate, in your case boxing. And then insane wrestler. So your hands are gonna be stronger. But try to make your ground game stronger than your boxing.

Chuck Liddel was a ground and pound kinda guy. Then Dana said hey if you dont stand up with this next guy your not fighting again. So who knows maybe youl be a natural. And no art is best they all have flaws and good parts. Howerver do not DO AIKIDO no matter what people say. Why do you think no MMA do aikido. Because it just dosent work.|||I think Brazilian Jujitsu would be your best bet. Judo is too formal and wrestling doesn't lend itself well to mixed martial arts. If you have to pick from one of those two, though, I'd go with wrestling since Judo tends not to emphasize groundwork as much.
